Erik Ten Hag was vocal in his disappointment of the officiating decisions following Manchester United’s Champions League defeat at FC Copenhagen on Wednesday.

United had been 2-0 up in the first half before forward Marcus Rashford was sent off by referee Donatas Rumsas in the 42nd minute for a late tackle on Elias Jelert.

The decision and a subsequent penalty awarded for a handball on Harry Maguire, led to the Red Devils losing the match 4-3.

The Dutch manager was heavily critical of the officiating of the match, pointing out how numerous decisions have gone against his side so far this season.

Ten Hag said: “I think the red card changed everything.

“Then we conceded two goals before half time which should never have counted, first is offside and the second is a penalty.

“In four games we have had four penalties against us, and I say that three are very debatable.”

The defeat marks United’s ninth loss in seventeen matches in a season that has been marred by several injuries and poor form which sees them bottom of their Champions League group with two matches to go.

Despite this, Ten Hag remained confident that his side can overcome these losses and turn their season around.

The manager said: “The squad is resilient.

“The whole season, so many decisions have been against us, so many setbacks for injuries, every time there is a spirit and there is a fight.

“We will keep going and I said to the lads that it will turn, one moment in the season it will turn in our favour.”
