Lando Norris took his fourth pole position of the year after a scintillating lap at the Belgian Grand Prix.
The Briton has won the last two races in a row, and has put himself in the perfect position to continue that streak by pipping his teammate Oscar Piastri to pole by 0.085 seconds.
Norris and Piastri, who took pole in the sprint qualifying on Friday, were fastest in Q1 and Q2 respectively, before the British driver found that extra bit of pace to beat his teammate in Q3 to secure pole position.
It’s a good upturn of form for the 25-year-old, who was third in both practice and sprint qualifying, where he was also six tenths slower than his teammate.
Speaking after qualifying, Norris said: “It was a decent lap so happy.
“Everyone was pretty worried after yesterday, I wasn’t even that far off.
“I was confident coming into today, so I was happy to be back at the top.
“The car has been flying all weekend, Oscar has been doing a good job so we have been pushing each other which is good.
“It is a good but tough battle we are having at the moment.”
Elsewhere, Charles Leclerc snatched P3 from Max Verstappen after setting a lap time that was scarcely faster than the Dutchman’s.
Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton was knocked out of the first qualifying session after having his time deleted for exceeding track limits and will start 16th.
Joining him in going out in Q1 was Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli who starts 18th.
His teammate, George Russell, fared better securing sixth place on the grid behind the Williams of Alex Albon, who put in a very impressive performance.
It promises to be an interesting race on Sunday, with rain forecast at Spa-Francorchamps, an unpredictable Grand Prix is on the cards.
Norris however, made his stance very clear on the potential weather for Sunday.
He said:
“I would prefer it to stay dry to be honest, it would be nice to have a dry Sunday.”
The Belgian Grand Prix starts at 14:00 BST on Sunday 27th July.
