Newcastle United have today confirmed the appointment Matthias Jaissle as the club’s new head coach.

The news follows the departure of previous manager Eddie Howe, who left the club last month after a near five-year stint.

Jaissle joins the Magpies from Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli, where he won two consecutive Asian Champions League titles.

The German, who at 38-years-old is the second youngest manager in the Premier League behind Brighton’s Fabian Hürzeler, has big shoes to fill.

He follows in the footsteps of the man who led Newcastle back into the Champions League for the first time since 2003.

Jaissle appears to be relishing the opportunity and is excited for what the future might bring on Tyneside.

Upon his appointment, Jaissle said: “When Newcastle United comes your way, you take notice.

“I am incredibly excited about the future. I fully and unreservedly believe in this project, the ambition and the direction the club is taking.”

Newcastle finished 12th in the Premier League last season and will be hoping to bounce back in the upcoming campaign.
